What is a Headless Browser?

One of the hot new terms to be thrown around these days is headless browser. but what do we mean by that? Perhaps, a browser with no head! but maybe there is more to this story ...

In order to understand what a headless browser is, let's take a step back and look at what a browser is. We have all used a browser, once or twice! but let's take a look at where it all started from ...

Internet has been around since 1960s and users would access the contents using a terminal. Up until 1990, when an engineer named Tim Berners-Lee gave the web contents a graphical life, through a software named WorldWideWeb. This is when web browsers where born!

Now that computers are browsing through all our cat pictures online, they don't really need to have a graphical view of the web pages. But scarping millions and even billions of web pages are highly time and memory consuming. This is were a browser with no graphical user interface comes into play! Meaning in order to optimize the scarping process, we can use a headless browser that doesn't include GUI and still fully scrap, monitor and test out online pages.
